I grew up in a house, surrounded by a big beautiful garden with plenty of fruit trees: apples, plums, prunes, apricots and of course cherries, with their sweet and sour variations. In spring, our garden looked absolutely gorgeous as all the fruit trees started to blossom and fragrance of various flowers blended together into a single exhilarating scent, the scent of spring…
In the past we had neither food processor nor blender, which in a way taught us to be creative with simple equipment we had on hands. My mom used to add fruits to many cakes and tarts and we prepared a lot of fruit spreads both for immediate and for later use. But eating cherries right off the tree was one of my favorite treats!
Nowadays I love to add greens to smoothies as I find it to be the most delicious way to eat my salads. This smoothie is packed with healthy ingredients, very satisfying and in combination with any form of protein makes a proper meal. Using frozen cherries will give the smoothie a semi liquid ice-cream consistency, which I personally enjoy.
- 1 cup cherries, fresh or frozen
- 1 very ripe banana
- 1 medium avocado
- 1 cup spinach, loosely packed
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Combine the cherries, banana, avocado, spinach, lemon juice and ginger powder in a food processor or blender and process until smooth.
